Scammers are targetting small businesses because they believe they're an easy target. Dr Michael Schaper, deputy chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, says fraud is costing Australian business $6 billion a year. Over-payment, false billing and internet fraud, like "phishing", are the commonest forms. He advises people to use an ACCC wesbite, www.scamwatch.gov.au, to report any attempted scams and help warn other potential victims.
