Marketing Strategy 2.0

These days, having a solid marketing strategy in place is essential. And making sure you don't deviate from the overall marketing plan is just as important.

So, if you’re left wondering how to write a marketing plan, where's the best place to start? Marketing guru, Tony Gattari, says an obvious starting point is Internet marketing. Tony says it’s estimated the internet generates revenues in the tens of billions of dollars, and it has supplanted TV as a main source of entertainment.

These are some compelling reasons why we must understand the power of the internet and how to use it in our business marketing.

The easiest way to expand your brand awareness is online

With Google, Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and YouTube now house-hold names, there really aren’t any excuses to not be active online and engaged with ‘Web 2.0’ and its associated social media tools. Tony Gattari says, when it comes to business marketing, we need to change our thinking. If we're still stuck in the traditional marketing mould and refuse to move with the times, our businesses will die. So, to help develop a powerful online marketing strategy, Tony has a 4-step process:

  1. Attract visitors to your website:
Sounds simple? Well, plenty of businesses just aren’t doing this effectively. You need to make sure you put your website address on every single piece of communication you display or send out. Also, understand the power of search engines - particularly Google. 80% of online transactions begin with a keyword search.
  2. Make your website a great experience:
Think of the end user. Make sure your site is easy to navigate, is visually appealing, and has unique content. Use key words and search phrases throughout your site to get it to rank highly in search engines (search engine optimisation or SEO).
  3. Convert your visitors into customers:
Allow your visitors to sign up for a newsletter, and offer an incentive for doing so. Produce an eBook they can download. Also, have an online quote facility or allow them to book an online consultation.  All this will become your database moving forward.
  4. Ensure your customers return:
Record all the data you collect via your website so you can actually get back to your potential customers. Use social media to engage with them - Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Google + etc. Make them feel important.

Quality content results in lead generation

Tony’s marketing tips demonstrate that now, more than ever, content is king. Marketing consultants and experts are continually urging SMEs to produce quality content on their websites.

Put simply, great content means more visitors to your site. Once users begin clicking through your site, signing up for a newsletter, or requesting a quote online, you have a very powerful lead generation tool.
