JUNE 2009

Working Under New IR Rules

Joydeep Hor, Harmers Workplace Lawyers

Joydeep Hor, Harmers Workplace Lawyers From July 1, 2009, the Rudd Government's Fair Work Act replaces the Work Choices legislation. The main impact on small and medium-sized businesses will be on potential unfair dismissal claims. Previously, companies with 100 or fewer staff were exempt, now it will be 15 or fewer, and even there a fair dismissal code applies. Joydeep Hor of Harmers Workplace Lawyers says business owners need to look closely at their exposure to these industrial relations changes.
