After 30 years helping businesses succeed, strategist and author Christopher Tipler came to the conclusion that the commonly-used models for strategic planning weren't working. So, after thinking long and hard, he came up with his own, in his book "Corpus RIOS - the how and what of strategic planning". RIOS stands for Realistic Imagination of Success. He says strategy is about matching ambition with capability, and sets out a series of steps to help that happen. Along the way, he points out that, while principles are important, the modern concept of "values" more often gets in the way of good business.
