Renato Mazza has led St Andrew's Insurance from its beginnings in Britain nearly twenty years ago half-way around the world to Australia and through three changes of ownership. In that time, he's developed four guiding principles of leadership which he says apply equally to large businesses or small ones. First, be clear about want you want to achieve longterm, and be passionate about it. Communicate your objectives freely and often to all concerned with the business. Focus on what you're actually doing to reach your target, and make sure everyone involved knows where they fit in, giving them space in which to develop. Now an independently-operated part of BOQ, St Andrews - and his own leadership style - are still a work-in-progress, Renato says, but the foundations are strong.
